The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) mourns with great sadness the passion on of comrade Ronnie Mamopa. Cde Ronnie passed on in hospital yesterday evening following a short illness.
Comrade Ronnie sacrificed his youth for the greater benefit of the country and became a freedom fighter which leading him to being detained in prison under the apartheid government. Upon completing his five year imprisonment in Robben Island, he remained active in the structures of the mass democratic movement and within the ranks of the United Democratic Front in particular.
In the advent of democracy he ushered the ANC into a new dawn in the Department of Information and Publicity - characterised with effective communications machinery within the party. He played in pivotal role in leading government communications, specifically at the Department of Home Affairs and the Presidency, respectively. He will be remembered for his role in the struggle against apartheid and his contribution in government communications as a political communicator of all seasons.
As the ANCWL we send our heartfelt condolences to the Mamoepa family, friends and activists at large. May they find comfort in knowing that we are with them in this trying time. Hamba Kahle Mkhonto!!!!
