The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) congratulates Ms. Bafeleang Priscillah Mabelane on her appointment as the Chief Executive officer of BP Southern Africa (BPSA).
Ms Mabelane is the first woman in South Africa within the oil industry to head a multi-national company. In the Southern Africa BP operates in Angola, South Africa and Mozambique. A qualified chartered accountant, she held various roles in a number of large companies which includes Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), Ernst & Young, and Eskom before joining BPSA.
The appointment of Ms Mabelane as Chief Executive of BPSA reaffirms the position of the ANCWL that given equal opportunity, women have capacity to lead in any sector at any level. The ANCWL is steadfast in calling for legislation of 50/50% gender parity in all sectors at all levels in South Africa as a step towards eradicating partriachy in all sectors at all levels.
The ANCWL's demand is for Corporates to provide black women an opportunity to be at the helm of leadership structures. The full fundamental change in the ownership, management and control corporates in favour of majority of black South African women must be implemented without any delay. Any economy that does not include active participation of majority of the country's citizens is not sustainable.
The ANCWL vehemently support the call for radical economic transformation. It is now or never!!
