The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) has learnt with great sadness of the passing of the former the Secretary General of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) and uMzimkhulu ANC Councillor, Cde Sindiso Magaqa. According to reports Cde Magaqa succumbed to injuries from a politically motivated shooting which occurred in July.
A dedicated cadre of the movement, a servant of the people and a champion for Economic Freedom; Comrade Magaqa will be fondly remembered for his humility and maturity in adhering to organisational discipline. Hailing from uMzimkhulu, Cde Magaqa cut his teeth in politics at Ibiza Secondary School where he led the student movement and later served diligently as the Chairperson of the ANCYL Harry Gwala Region - a position which saw him ascend to being the Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General of the ANCYL respectively.
It was in the ANCYL that his love for South Africa and its people was displayed and became a stern agitator for economic inequality and stood by the resolve that the economic gap between black and white people in the country needs to be narrowed. Comrade Magaqa also made an immeasurable contribution in bettering the lives of the people of uMzikhukhulu where he was deployed by the African National Congress as councillor till he met his untimely death.
The passing of Comrade Magaqa must direct our attention towards fighting political killings in the KZN province and the country atlarge. His death is a hard pill to swallow for the movement and we call on law enforcement agencies to speedily find the perpetrators and bring them to book. We also call on society to assist the law enforcement agencies and bring forward any information in relation to the shooting which involved Cde Magaqa, Cde Mafa and Cde Mzizi.
The ANCWL sends heartfelt condolences to Cde Sindiso Magaqa's family, friends, comrades, colleagues and the community of uMzimkhulu atlarge. May they find comfort in knowing they are in our prayers and we will forever be indebted to them for sharing their son with the entire mass democratic movement and South Africa as a whole.
