The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) -Bokone Bophirima Province has noted the sad reports alleging that Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Chief Whip in Provincial Legislature who is also EFF Deputy Provincial Chairperson Bunga Ntsangane assaulted a female EFF colleague and also threatened to "cut off" the woman's private parts during their heated argument.
The ANCWL in Bokone-Bophirima condemns this alleged barbaric act and utterances by Mr Ntsangane. Whilst we take into account the principles of innocent until proven guilty, the ANCWL Bokone Bophirima is resolute in supporting the victims of violence. Mr Ntsangane must face the full might of the law.
We call on the EFF in the Province and National to join the ANCWL Bokone Bophirima in condemning the acts of violence against women. Their organisation is not immune to patriarchal attitudes and there is a need to unite beyond political party affiliations to defeat entrenched patriarchy and male chauvinism in political parties.
ANCWL in Bokone Bophirima calls its members, supporters and society in general to stand together in the fight against any form of gender oppression in the Province.
Women rights are human rights.
