The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) congratulates Ms. Paxton Fielies on winning Idols South Africa (SA) 2017.
The 17yrs old Ms Fielies, bagged the most votes to become the youngest female winner of Idols SA. Her win has demonstrated that through dedication, commitment and support from society in general young girls in South Africa can achieve their dreams. Her success reaffirms the position of the ANCWL that given equal opportunity, women and young girls have capacity to excel in any sector at any level.
The ANCWL's demand is for ANC government in particular the Department of Arts and Culture to provide full support to female artists. The Arts industry is not immune to patriarchal attitudes and male chauvinism. There is an urgent need for full fundamental change in the ownership, management and control of arts sector in favour of majority of black South African women. Any sector that does not protect and support active participation of majority of these country's citizens is not sustainable.
The ANCWL congratulates the trendsetter Ms Paxton Fielies and may her success encourage all the young girls across the length and breadth of our country to reach their goals.
Wishing her all the best for her career!!
