ANCWL statement on the alleged attempted assault by African National Congress Member of Parliament

ANCWL statement on the alleged attempted assault by African National Congress Member of Parliament

1 December 2017

The African National Congress (ANCWL) has noted disturbing reports alleging that the African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Mervyn Dirks has threatened to assault a female MP during the sitting of National Assembly on the 30 November 2017.

Any form of abuse to women must be condemned and perpetrators must face the law. We also take into account and acknowledge the principles of innocent until proven guilty. The ANCWL is resolute in supporting the victims of violence and it will reiterate this position. We appeal to the Speaker of the National Assembly to ensure that Parliament speedup it's investigation on the matter.

Abuse of any human being in any form is wrong and must be condemned and those found guilty of abuse must be punished. ANCWL encourages the victim and witnesses of abuse to give all report to law enforcement agencies for the law to take its course.
