The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) welcomes the statement issued by Joint Constitutional Review Committee stating their resolution to go on an extensive public participation process in order to review Section 25 of the Constitution in order for the state to expropriate land without compensation.
Majority of the victims of brutality of landlessness are poor and working class women. Discussions on land expropriation should be given a gender, race and class perspective to in order to decisively redress landlessness of women that is perpetuated by racism, patriarchy and class. It is against this background that the ANCWL across the length and breadth of the country will mobilise women to actively participate in the public participation processes. Women must be at the forefront of making the laws that will dismantle patriarchy and all its facets. In building a non-sexist prosperous South Africa, the rights of women should be paramount and be regarded as human rights by all and sundry. Women must have equal ownership of land.
ANCWL unapologetically reiterates its call on land expropriation without compensation. Radical socio-economic transformation now or never!!
