During the Easter holidays the Christian community commemorates the crucifixion & resurrection of Jesus Christ and the Jewish community equally celebrates the Passover.
The Easter holidays also fall within the quarterly schools holidays and that provides parents / guardians with much needed time to spend with their children who are of the school going age.
We appeal to all parents / guardians to be vigilant on the safety of their children during holidays. The society at large also must unite against child and women abuse and ensure that this holidays and other days after, becomes gender based violence incident free days. South Africa must be a safe and secure country for women and children. Perpetrators of child and women abuse must be exposed and face full might of the law.
The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) urges those who will be driving to various areas for their holidays to observe road rules. Please avoid drinking and driving at all costs. Many breadwinners are lost on South Africans roads during holidays and that leaves families with orphans.
Those who will be attending religious events across the country, please put the country and its leadership in your prayers. Pray also for leaders across all political parties. The political leaders must be united and ensure that the legacy of colonialism and apartheid that has created high level of inequalities, unemployment and poverty is eradicated. Unequal society is not a stable society. Inequality, unemployment and poverty threatens peace and stability of the country.
The ANCWL wishes all South Africans a peaceful and joyful Easter holidays. Let us celebrate the Easter holidays responsibly!!
