The African National Congress Women's League led by President Bathabile Dlamini and Secretary General Meokgo Matuba will receive Dr Delois Blakely, better known as the Queen Mother, at O.R Tambo International Airport, tomorrow.
The Queen Mother who hails from Harlem, New York, is a friend of Mam' Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who had requested to visit her just before she passed on.
The Queen Mother is described as the champion of women, youth, education, economic-social development. She serves her community as the "honorary Mayor of Harlem" and sworn in by former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. She also serves in the United Nations (UN) as a Goodwill Ambassador to Africa and has the task of dealing with women, children and human rights issues of the African Diaspora and shares the findings with the UN.
Recently in New York during the UN Commission on the Status of Women, she was thanked by the South African delegation for saving Mam'Winnie's life in Beijing when they attended the historic conference.
The Queen Mother is also known for suing Disney and Sony Pictures for the movie "Sister Act". She claimed that the movie was based on her biography "The Harlem Street Nun".
